Kung
Fu San Soo is a combative application of a southern Chinese martial art
called Tsol Li Hoi Fut Hung Kung Fu. The free-fighting techniques in San Soo are
based on various combinations of blocks, punches, kicks, leverages
(joint-locks), throws, and takedowns. Each technique can be changed instantly to
suit any situation and does not necessary follow a set pattern. These techniques
are circular in nature, and are executed in a continuous flowing movement
directed at vital areas of the body. Therefore, Kung Fu San Soo is not practiced
as a sport but for combative application.
Kung Fu San Soo focuses
on how to properly and intelligently use one-self. Through
proper understanding/application of body mechanics,
concentration, self-control, and psychological aspect of
fighting, San Soo practitioners
cultivate his/her effectiveness in martial skills. Thus,
utilizing proper coordination, balance, and timing, one is able
to compensate from the sole reliance of individual’s inherent
genetic abilities such as speed, force, or strength, when
executing various techniques. With these principles combined,
individuals can grow as unique martial artists developing a
character of their own.
Kung Fu San Soo
instills philosophy through self-discipline and respect for
all people. Discipline is not forced upon the student, but
rather each individual is responsible for the exploration of
his/her "own" self-discipline. This philosophy allows the
student freedom to develop one’s own element and style to best
fit one's inherent ability and character. Therefore, the skill
of the San Soo practitioner is reflected not only through
physical ability, but also with the character, which a person builds through
self-discipline and diligent practice of the art. In addition,
the goal of the San Soo practitioner is to develop respect for
fellow men/women, which is based upon the understanding that the
mind and character of an individual cannot be completely known. Consequently, person cannot determine who is a fighter and who
is not; thus, each man/woman is potentially equal as a fighter. With this philosophy in mind, students will develop
self-control/discipline and cultivation of respect for all.
